KILLER INSTINCTS
My Naming Story
Naming is in my blood. It has been, for generations.
On my father's side, it is my Drake relatives who sued Sir Francis Drake for abusing their surname. Our Sir Barnard Drake snobbishly lorded it over Sir Francis, ""That though Her Majesty could give him a nobler, yet she could not give him an ancienter coat than his."
On my mother's side, due to the Sweden's family name regulation act (släktnamnsförordningen) of 1901, my family ancestor created his own surname based on Swedish and Greek, (Thunander, the man from the wooded clearing). The name I was given is based on a misspelled name across two generations, the town and church where I grew up both changed their names, as well as the high school where I was graduated...
In high school Latin class, while studying etymology, I saw my schoolmate's nail polish and said, "Imagine, it's someone's job to call this Pink Poppy?"
